2019/-/Cutting sheet lettering on glass, interior scene (through window), bed, wood, painting, etc
This work is an installation in which the viewer peers into an interior space through letters cut from vinyl sheets affixed to a glass surface. Through the gaps between the letters, one can glimpse a room filled with complex staircases, tall shelves, and a bed—none of which seem suited for ordinary living.
There is no one in the room. And yet, the viewer begins to imagine that “someone’s body” might exist there. The bed stands on an unstable platform, and the stairs are steeply angled—clearly impractical. Still, if an “imagined body” were to be there, would it use the stairs? Could we imagine it having wings with which to fly?
A non-existent body appears in this untouchable space. If that body were to possess muscular strength, for what purpose would it be? How far can our imagination resist the gravity of the real world?
In this work, I wanted to explore the relationship between imagination and the body, between reality and gravity, by focusing on the idea of “nonexistent muscular strength.”
