《輪切りにされたかつてのひかり、地の満ち欠け》
at group exhibition「FUTURE TO-DAY 今日という未来」

From the window of a gallery in Kisarazu, I can see across the bay to Kawasaki, the city where I was born and raised. Connecting the two is the Tokyo Bay Aqua-Line—not merely an infrastructural bridge and tunnel, but a remnant of a once-proposed megacity plan known as the "Neo-Tokyo Plan." This work draws inspiration from that unrealized vision, which I encountered while researching the Aqua-Line.
The Neo-Tokyo Plan was a postwar proposal to create entirely new geography and urbanity by reclaiming land across Tokyo Bay. At its heart was a star-shaped runway design—an ambitious, almost otherworldly form that never came to fruition. While much of the plan was abandoned due to budget constraints and shifting political contexts, the Aqua-Line itself remains as a partial echo of that speculative future.
I was drawn to the tension between what was realized and what remained imaginary. The map of a future city was not mere fantasy; it was once a concrete possibility—a parallel version of reality now embedded in history. The outlines of this vision seem to overlap with the shoreline beyond the window, where land surfaces and recedes with the tides. Just as the full moon and new moon redraw the boundary between sea and land, the imagined star form momentarily emerges—between past and future, reality and fiction.
Like the light from a distant star, it still quietly lingers there.

木更津にあるギャラリーの窓から、私が生まれ育った川崎の街を対岸に見ることができる。木更津と川崎、二つの地域をつなぐ東京湾アクアラインは、ただのインフラとしてではなく、かつて構想された巨大都市計画「ネオ・トウキョウ・プラン」の名残でもある。この作品は、アクアラインを調べる中で出会ったその幻の都市構想に着想を得ている。
ネオ・トウキョウ・プランは、東京湾の埋立によって新たな地形と都市を生み出そうとした計画であり、その中心には、星形をした滑走路案が存在していたという。多くの部分は予算や時代背景によって実現されなかったが、アクアラインという構造物が、その一部を現代に浮かび上がらせている。
その実現と未完の間にある人々の意思に惹かれた。描かれた未来の地図は、単なる夢想ではなく、かつて確かに実現されようとしたもう一つの現実だったのだという実感が、窓の向こうに重なってくる。潮の満ち引きとともに浮かび、消えていく木更津の干潟。満月と新月が境界を更新するように、海と陸、現実と想像、過去と未来のあいだに、星型のかたちが微かに立ち現れる。
それは、遥か彼方から届く光のように、今も静かにそこにある。
